Bye bye HTC One, Hello HTC 10!

If, until now, the Taiwanese company was expected to propose a model whose name would go along with the previous models, it will ultimately not be the case. According to the leakers Onleaks and Evleaks, the successor of the HTC One M9 finally takes the name of HTC 10. One way to mark a renewal since the device proposes a new design.

Snapdragon 820 on board and maximum power

As in previous years, HTC relies on Qualcomm's latest Soc. The Snapdragon 820 that shakes the benchmarks and has made forget the bad buzz of the Snapdragon 810. The program more power but also a preserved autonomy. According to the latest corridor noise, the quad core chip is accompanied by 4 GB of RAM. There is also 32 GB of internal storage and an SD slot to extend the memory.

A few days ago, an initial benchmark AnTuTu of the HTC 10 surfaced and informed us about its performance. The program scored 156,091 points higher than the Galaxy S7 Edge and the Xiaomi Mi5. This suggests the best for the future. Same on Geekbench where it gets 5275 points on the multi core test and 2287 points on the single core test. It thus exceeds the LG G5 and tallies the Galaxy S7. One thing is for sure, the HTC 10 is a monster!

A Super LCD 5.2 inch screen

After offering 5-inch for two consecutive years, HTC has revised the screen dimensions of its flagship upward with a 5.2-inch slab. The slab displays a Quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels or a very high resolution of 564 dpi. It will be noted that it is covered with a 2.5D glass of the most beautiful effect.

In terms of display quality, nothing wrong. The colors are glowing and the viewing angles are excellent. In addition, several display modes are available. It will suffice to find the one that suits you.

Return of the UtraPixel for the photo part

The UltraPixel technology that made the success of the M7 is now back. But this time, it is no longer a question of proposing a sensor of 4 Megapixels because the phone displays 12 Megapixels on the meter, all with large photosites of 1.55μm and a f / 1.8 opening.

It is able to capture 136% more light than the M9 and is expected to perform brilliantly both day and night. Tested by DxOMark, the HTC 10's photo sensor got a score of 88 points. It therefore gets directly tied first ex aequo with the Samsung Galaxy S7. The two best Android phones from the market in 2016!

Thanks to its latest-generation laser autofocus, the focus is three faster on this new model than it was on the M9 while the camera opens in only 0.6 seconds. There is also a double LED flash and OIS optical stabilization.

It still remains a notch below the Galaxy S7's Dual Pixel sensor that offers autofocus and faster capture. Moreover, when the light sources are too strong, the HTC 10's photo sensor sometimes has a tendency to display halos of light on the images but overall it is excellent and well above the lot and remains one of the good reasons for Crack for this HTC 10.

Finally, for selfies, HTC has opted for a 5 megapixel front camera with large photosites of 1.34μm, a f / 1.8 aperture and OIS optical stabilization. A technology usually reserved for back photo sensors.

A battery of 3000 mAh

After offering 2600 mAh on its M8 and 2840 mAh last year, HTC is making an extra effort this year. Its HTC 10 offers a 3000 mAh battery, which remains a good average for a 5.2-inch smartphone. It should be noted that the Quick Charging Quick Charge 3.0 is part and allows to charge 50% of the battery in only 30 minutes.

It is the same capacity that proposes Samsung with its Galaxy S7 which offers approximately one and a half days of autonomy. With a Quad HD screen, 3000 mAh, it is the minimum union but with a software optimized, the autonomy should also be at the rendezvous HTC.

According to the Taiwanese company, the HTC 10 will offer autonomy to the top. In the video, the company's engineers say they have worked like crazy to offer a smartphone more enduring than ever, even going so far as to develop a science: PowerBotics.

During our test and after pushing the device within its limits, we managed to hold a day as part of an intensive use with the screen turned on for over 3 hours, 30 minutes spent on Real Racing and several videos Viewed on YouTube but in a mixed use, the phone should not have a hard time reaching a day and a half of endurance.

An ultra-customizable HTC Sense 8 overlay

The HTC will also mark the arrival of HTC Sense 8, the next version of the Taiwanese manufacturer's home overlay. Ultra customizable, this one will propose a new feature of the name of Freestyle Layouts that will move the icons of applications, widgets and other elements wherever you want on the screen of your phone.

A real free placement since there will be no question of grids of 4 x 5 or 5 x 5 applications. An option that is found on some third party launchers but that still remains totally unprecedented on a manufacturer overlay.

Finally, the number of applications preinstalled in the overlay has been restricted so as not to duplicate Google services.

Super sound thanks to BoomSound Hifi

It was feared that the new design used by the company would sign the end of the BoomSound speakers but fortunately it will not. The last two teasers were formal, the technology is still present.

HTC was "obsessed" with the idea of offering a quality sound and seems to have kept its promise. The sound processing includes two amplifiers (one per speaker) to provide a richer sound. The special placement of the speakers gives the impression that the sound comes out of the middle of the phone.

Alongside the two stereo speakers, there is a DAC that converts 16 Bit files to analog but also play files in 24 bit. The sound of the phone is certified "High Res", as are the in-ear headphones that accompany it.

Designed on the HTC One A9

When the HTC One M8 and M9 arrived in 2014 and 2015, many consumers were able to point the finger at the famous black band between the screen and the lower loudspeaker, Constructor. With the disappearance of the navigation buttons now located on the screen, many judged its presence useless. A black band that has disappeared with the HTC One A9 and it is precisely this design that should be reused on the HTC 10.

On the release of the A9, HTC was criticized for copying the design of the iPhone 6. According to the Taiwanese company, Apple copied and not the other way around. Regardless, the most important thing is that we will have a new design.

While it is true that the HTC 10 presents a rather familiar design, it also marks a renewal. Its 2.5D display is beautiful and its back with bevelled edges makes it easy to grasp the device. It will also be noted that the two BoomSound speakers adopt a new layout since the first is located at the headphone and the second on the bottom slice.

Note that the HTC 10 is IP53 certified, so it resists dust. It is therefore protected "against rain water up to 60 ° from the vertical".

Return of off-screen buttons

To better optimize the aspect ratio, HTC has found an unexpected solution. While from the M8, the navigation buttons were placed on the screen, the 2016 model marks the return of the buttons off-screen. The "Back" and "Multitasking" keys are now placed on either side of the physical home button that houses the fingerprint reader.

From USB Type C

If Samsung has preferred to keep a traditional micro USB port, HTC has taken the same turn as LG and other manufacturers by integrating a USB Type C port to its next smartphone. The reversible connector is clearly visible on the last pictures of the phone and will bring some comfort. If, in addition, the Quick Charge 3.0 quick charging is supported (what remains to be defined), then charging times should be considerably reduced.

Price and release date

If Samsung and LG have chosen to formalize their latest flagships in February as part of the MWC 2016, the Taiwanese preferred to wait a little later before unveiling his latest phone. And it is now official: the HTC 10 which is now official will be available at the beginning of May priced at 749 euros. A price that remains high but not more than usual. The high-end Android devices are expensive at the time of their launch but tend to fall very quickly.
